Telling My Travel Stories
Firstly and most importantly: welcome to my refreshed digital community!
In the past, when I was working towards traveling to all 196 countries I had my content spread widely between a personal blog, facebook, twitter, instagram, and many other places. My goal with starting this substack is to bring all my travel and storytelling content under one umbrella with one goal in mind: inspiring you to travel more and to get more from your travels!
So, who is this space for?
My goal is to build a vibrant community of travel enthusiasts. My goal is that by telling my stories I will inspire each of you to take that big leap and plan that trip you’ve always dreamed about. To believe that nothing is impossible, and with a little inspiration and research you can get out there and experience anything you set your mind to! I want this to be a place where people can share their stories and inspire others to travel not only more, but more broadly to have richer experiences.
We live in a world that’s often presented as a stark choice between black and white, when in reality our stories are much more nuanced than that. By telling stories we can share evidence that the world is not only a complex place, but that by getting out there and experiencing it for yourself we will continue to grow and learn for our entire lives.
St. Augustine of Hippo once said "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.” It’s remarkably easy to lead a simple life and be spoon-fed by the media, but when we get out there and see the complexities of humanity up close it enriches not only our own lives, but the lives of those we impact.
What can you expect to find here?
In the beginning, I won’t be posting on a set schedule but have a goal to post at least once a week. The goal for now is to build the rich travel-oriented community that I envision and begin to share stories and content with you.
As I move towards building a full-time travel-oriented life going forward I will be eventually adding subscriber-only content to the community. Some early thoughts on what subscribers will be able to expect include:
monthly chat spaces oriented around a given theme, country, or region
custom travel planning and experience and story generation
a space to directly ask me travel advice and expect a timely response
